The Creative Coalition’s Robin Bronk to Speak at Congressional Seminar on TV Violence

TCC’s Executive Director will participate in the Progress & Freedom Foundation Congressional Seminar The Complexities of Regulating TV Violence

Washington, D.C. (May 17, 2007) – The Creative Coalition’s Executive Director Robin Bronk will be a panelist for the Progress & Freedom Foundation’s Congressional Seminar, The Complexities of Regulating TV Violence Friday, May 18, 2007. The seminar will be held from noon to 2:00 p.m. in Room B354 of the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, D.C.

On April 25th, the Federal Communications Commission released a report on violent television programming and its impact on children. The FCC recommended that government assume a greater role in regulating violent video content that comes into the home. This Progress & Freedom Foundation policy seminar will examine the FCC report as well as the complexities of defining and regulating violent television programming.

As the nonprofit, nonpartisan public advocacy arm of the arts and entertainment industry, The Creative Coalition works to mobilize and educate the arts community on issues of national importance with special focus on those involving First Amendment rights.

“Letting the FCC decide what is appropriate for television is not the best solution,” said Robin Bronk, Executive Director of The Creative Coalition. “Instead, we need to be raising awareness of media literacy to protect our children and ensure that parents and guardians can make responsible programming choices.”

The panel will be moderated by Adam Thierer, Senior Fellow, The Progress & Freedom Foundation and other panelists include Robert Corn-Revere, Partner, Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, Jonathan L. Freedman, Professor of Psychology, University of Toronto and Author, Media Violence and its Effect on Aggression and Henry Geller, Former General Counsel, Federal Communications Commission.
