THE CREATIVE COALITION RECEIVES INDEPENDENT FILMMAKER DAY
EXCELLENCE IN FILMMAKING AWARD
November 1, 2021 (NEW YORK, NY) – The Creative Coalition is the recipient of the 2021 Independent Filmmaker Day Excellence in Filmmaking Award for the organization’s Spotlight Initiative, a multi-platform project that showcases the efficacy of the arts in bringing social welfare issues to the forefront of the national agenda. The Award was presented at a virtual event that included a moderated panel with winners of this year’s Creative Coalition’s Spotlight Initiative Short Film Competition, The Untold Story of Obesity in America. The event featured a panel moderated by The Creative Coalition CEO Robin Bronk, with the Competition winners – Emmy Award-nominated Kelly Jenrette (“The Handmaid’s Tale”), Greg DePaul (Bride Wars), and Emmy and Tony Award-winner David Gallo (“Sesame Street”).

The Short Film Competition Spotlighting the Untold Story of Obesity in America is part of The Creative Coalition’s Spotlight Initiative, a prestigious program in the independent film arena. For over a decade, The Creative Coalition’s Spotlight Initiative Honors have been bestowed during the Sundance, Cannes, and Toronto Film Festivals. Honorees include Nicholas Cage, Uzo Aduba, Alan Arkin, Ellen Barkin, Kathy Bates, Jennifer Connelly, Lee Daniels, Jonathan Demme, Roland Emmerich, Vera Farmiga, Josh Gad, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Taylor Hackford, Dustin Hoffman, Imogen Poots, Jeremy Irons, Anna Kendrick, Barbara Kopple, Barry Levinson, William H. Macy, Alfred Molina, Demi Moore, Tracy Morgan, Julia Ormond, Sean Penn, Quentin Tarantino, Stanley Tucci, and Shailene Woodley, among others.
Independent Filmmaker Day brings together a network of directors, producers, actors, and creators involved in film with approximately 550K followers in the entertainment industry and beyond. This annual event assists creators from around the world in developing new projects, connecting within the industry, and championing collaborative and impactful storytelling at all stages. Past participants in Independent Filmmaker Day include Academy Award-winner Richard Dreyfuss (Jaws, Mr. Holland’s Opus), Emmy Award-winner Jason Alexander (“Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Seinfeld”), Emmy Award-winner Tony Shalhoub (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), Grammy Award-winner Ice-T (“Law & Order: SVU”), and Actor Catherine Curtin (“Orange Is the New Black,” “Stranger Things”), among others.
