Statement of The Creative Coalition on the release of President Trump’s Fiscal Year 2021 budget eliminating funding for the National Endowment for the Arts

February 10, 2020 (Washington, DC) – Today, President Trump released his Fiscal Year 2021 budget request to Congress. Unfortunately, as in the previous three years, the budget proposes to eliminate all funding for the National Endowment for the Arts. The Creative Coalition strongly rejects the President’s annual call to end federal funding for the NEA and will lead a delegation to Capitol Hill this spring in opposition. Congress must again reject these draconian cuts proposed in the President’s budget request and instead increase funding for the NEA.

“This call to zero out budgeting (again) for the National Endowment for the Arts is truly mind boggling,” said Robin Bronk, CEO of The Creative Coalition. “The facts speak overwhelmingly to support the outsized contribution the arts make to the economy and society. We thank our congressional supporters who champion an investment in the arts and we look forward to working with them to continue federal support for the arts in America.”

Eliminating funding for the National Endowment for the Arts would be devastating to communities whose only access to the arts comes from projects made possible by NEA grants,” said Tim Daly, Actor and President of The Creative Coalition. “At-risk youth, rural communities – without NEA funding, too many would lose their #RightToBearArts™. The Creative Coalition stands ready to fight this short-sighted funding cut.”

The Creative Coalition was founded with the mission of protecting federal funding for the arts and access to the arts for all Americans. Thirty years later, we continue to educate policymakers about the importance of the arts and their positive impacts. The Creative Coalition urges everyone touched by the arts to speak out against President Trump’s proposal to end funding for the National Endowment for the Arts.
