New York, NY (December 6, 2010) – The Creative Coalition announced today that Margin Call — featuring Kevin Spacey, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Irons, Zachary Quinto, Penn Badgley, Simon Baker, Mary McDonnell, with Demi Moore, and Stanley Tucci — has been chosen to top their 2011 Spotlight Initiative Series slate.
The Creative Coalition’s Spotlight Initiative was created in 2008 with a unique and specific goal in mind: make a positive difference in the world. .
“Spotlight Initiative films are those that employ the creative arts to draw attention to issues and subjects that are socially relevant,” said CEO of The Creative Coalition Robin Bronk. “Margin Call conveys that, at its root, our nation’s financial crisis is an every-man issue. The film demonstrates how the everyday decisions of regular people led to the consequences and amendments that forever changed our country’s economic landscape.”
Director of Margin Call J.C. Chandor added, “It’s an honor to be selected as a Spotlight Initiative feature. This affiliation will serve as a megaphone for Margin Call’s message, and help lead the film to make a significant impact on audiences everywhere by communicating the truly human nature of these financial issues.”
Margin Call focuses on the key people at a prominent investment bank, and their turbulent experiences in the early stages of the 2008 financial crisis. It is a contained tale of the men and women who work there, their lives, their humanity, and the roller-coasters that can happen in that environment. During a 24-hour-period, they all begin to realize that their company has been over-leveraged to the brink of bankruptcy, and that historically significant and sweeping changes are now inevitable.
Margin Call is written and directed by J.C. Chandor, and produced by actor Zachary Quinto’s Before The Door Pictures, along with partners Neal Dodson and Corey Moosa. The producing team also includes Michael Benaroya and Robert Ogden Barnum of Benaroya Pictures along with Joe Jenckes, and executive producers Cassian Elwes, Laura Rister, Randy Manis, and Joshua Blum of Washington Square Films. Kirk D’Amico and his Myriad Pictures is representing foreign rights on the project.
