Latest Selection in TCC’s Prestigious Spotlight Initiative Film Series

Academy Award®-Nominated THE INVISIBLE WAR
2013 Spotlight Initiative Film Slate Selection

New York, NY (February 4, 2013) — Today, The Creative Coalition announced that the Academy Award®-nominated film, The Invisible War, is the latest selection to be included in the organization’s prestigious Spotlight Initiative film series. The Invisible War exposes the epidemic of sex crimes within the U.S. military and is directed by Oscar® and Emmy®-nominated filmmaker Kirby Dick.

The Creative Coalition created the Spotlight Initiative as an integrated partnership that champions the art and craft of independent film-making by providing alternative marketing and public relations resources that allow a film’s message to reach beyond the movie screen to opinion leaders, tastemakers and trendsetters. Each year, The Creative Coalition selects ten films – both feature films and documentaries – to be included in the Spotlight Initiative.

“The purpose of the Spotlight Initiative is to use the platform of independent film to increase the awareness impact of an issue. The Invisible War is an uncompromising documentary about one of our country’s most shameful secrets – the epidemic of rape within the US military. The Invisible War also presents a ‘blueprint’ for a solution,” said Robin Bronk, CEO of The Creative Coalition.

“We are honored to be chosen this year for The Creative Coalition’s Spotlight Initiative,” said Kirby Dick. “Their support is crucial to the field we work in and particularly for The Invisible War, for which the subject matter has been hidden, yet so widely affects our society.”

Distributed by Cinedigm (NASDAQ: CIDM), The Invisible War is a groundbreaking investigation about one of America’s best-kept secrets: the epidemic of rape within the U.S. military. A moving indictment of the systemic cover-up of military sex crimes, the film chronicles women and men’s struggles to rebuild their lives and fight for justice. It features hard-hitting interviews with high-ranking military officials and members of Congress that reveal the perfect storm of conditions that exist for rape in the military, its long-hidden history, and what can be done to bring about much-needed change. In addition to its Oscar® nomination, The Invisible War is nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Documentary, the Writers Guild Award for Best Documentary Screenplay and the Directors Guild Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement, and was voted one of the 10 best films of the year by TIME Magazine.
