Washington, DC (August 1, 2006) – The Creative Coalition announced today that eight-time Grammy Award winner and philanthropist CHAKA KHAN will headline a private performance during THE CREATIVE COALITION’s Celebration of African Americans in the Arts in partnership with ESSENCE magazine.  This invitation-only, black-tie galahonoring Congressman Charles B. Rangel and American business leader and philanthropist Edward Lewis with the 2006 Spotlight awards will be held in Washington, DC on Wednesday evening, September 6, 2006 at the Corcoran Gallery of Art. 

The evening also pays homage to the significant contributions of the nation’s greatest African American artists with a bi-partisan Congressional Co-Host Committee as well as luminaries from the business and entertainment industry. Co-Presidents of The Creative Coalition Tony Goldwyn and Joe Pantoliano, ESSENCE magazine Editor-in-Chief Angela Burt-Murray,Spike Lee, Michael Jordan, Seal, Dustin Hoffman, Keith Richards, Bill Cosby, Harry Belafonte, Seal, Roberta Flack, Anjelica Huston, Yoko Ono, Alfre Woodard, Kerry Washington, Forest Whitaker, Dan Aykroyd, and Billy Crystal are confirmed Co-Hosts of this spectacular evening.
