The Creative Coalition Congratulates Dr. Maria Rosario Jackson, the New Chair for the National Endowment for the Arts
December 20, 2021 (Washington, DC) The Creative Coalition welcomes Dr. Maria Rosario Jackson as the next Chair of the National Endowment for the Arts after she was confirmed by the Senate over the weekend. Dr. Jackson has long been one of our nation’s leading voices in highlighting the intersection of the arts with nearly all aspects of our society. Throughout her distinguished career, she has fought to bring more equity and inclusion to the arts to help more communities benefit from the value of the arts.
“The arts can help to unite us and build stronger communities. No one knows this better than Dr. Jackson,” said actor and President of The Creative Coalition, Tim Daly. “On behalf of The Creative Coalition and our members, I congratulate her on being confirmed by the Senate and becoming the first African American and Mexican American to lead the NEA. I look forward to working with Dr. Jackson to bring the transformative power of the arts to all citizens in our nation.”
“Congratulations to Dr. Jackson on her confirmation by the U.S. Senate to serve as the next Chair of the National Endowment for the Arts. The arts community is fortunate to have such an accomplished leader at this critical time. The arts will play a major role in helping our nation recover from this terrible pandemic and I am confident that Dr. Jackson will work tirelessly to defend the #RightToBearArts for all Americans and expand access to the arts in communities who have been historically underserved,” said The Creative Coalition CEO Robin Bronk.
The Creative Coalition has long advocated for increased funding for the National Endowment for the Arts. Each year, The Creative Coalition leads a delegation of artists to Capitol Hill to bring attention to the critical role of the arts in communities, education, and our nation’s economy. Our members advocate for increased funding for the National Endowment for the Arts and protect the #RightToBearArts for all Americans.
In the first weeks of the new year, Congress will be negotiating the final funding levels for many federal programs, including the NEA. It is vital they hear from YOU during this time about the critical need to fund the NEA at the House-passed level of $201 million.
Please contact your Senators and Representatives to urge them to support the arts sector by funding the NEA at $201 million. This funding increase will enable artists and cultural institutions to help our nation heal from the devastation of the pandemic and expand access to the arts in communities that have little to no opportunity to experience the healing power of the arts.
