On shooting Netflix’s “Freeridge,” the spin-off of the hit show “On My Block”: “It’s set in downtown LA. It feels very real. It’s about real families and real struggles. Things in LA that aren’t about glamour and Hollywood, but about the real people and real minority communities out there.”
On booking the role of Demi on “Freeridge”: “I booked the role over a year ago. I had a lot of time to sit with it and let it develop. I think of Demi as kind of my younger self – I want to guide her and give her a hug. I feel like Demi’s really similar to me. She’s really into fashion and putting things on her body to express herself because she can’t find the words within. She’s reaching outward for answers. She’s still a kid. And she’s still figuring it out. There’s a side storyline of a curse which involves a lot of my character’s spirituality background with Demi acting as a spiritual guide in figuring out if this curse is real or not.”
On the set of the Kim Possible film: “My favorite part was the stunt training. They were really, really hands-on with having us do a lot of it. I was in the best shape of my life. It was cool because my character did a lot with the bow staff.”
On appearing on an episode of “Grey’s Anatomy”: “’Grey’s Anatomy’ is a well-oiled machine, that’s for sure. Like, you walk on the stage– an entire lot converted into a hospital and every room is a set so that they can film anywhere. It feels like you’re just in a hospital. I played Diamond in a really cool episode about women’s reproductive rights. I was super excited to be a part of that, and [my character] had an ovarian twist – twisted ovaries – apparently it is a really common thing and it’s incredibly painful, but it was really cool to learn about that.”
