Oscilloscope Laboratories Joins The Creative Coalition’s Spotlight Initiative

New York, NY (February 23, 2010) – The Creative Coalition’s Spotlight Initiative announced today that it is teaming up with Oscilloscope Laboratories to support the release of Bradley Rust Gray’s The Exploding Girl starring Zoe Kazan.

Oscilloscope is one of several independent distribution companies that have been invited to join The Creative Coalition’s Spotlight Initiative, an integrated partnership supporting independent films, which have the capacity of influencing national and global agendas.  Through the Spotlight Initiative, The Creative Coalition invokes cause-related marketing strategies to extend the reach of a film’s message beyond the movie screen.

“We are very happy to be partnering with The Creative Coalition’s Spotlight Initiative,” said David Fenkel of Oscilloscope.  “This forum provides our films with support to bring attention to issues, causes and, most importantly, stories that people need to see.”

“The Spotlight Initiative provides support that enables films to reach the grassroots as well as the nation’s influencers.  It brings attention to – through the art of filmmaking --   the important issues and causes of the day,” added The Creative Coalition Executive Director Robin Bronk.

Oscilloscope’s The Exploding Girl has been selected as a Spotlight Initiative film. The Exploding Girl is a portrait of a young woman dealing with love during her summer break in New York City while battling epilepsy. Written and Directed by Bradley Rust Gray, The Exploding Girl stars Zoe Kazan (It’s Complicated, Revolutionary Road, currently performing on Broadway in A Behanding in Spokane) and Mark Randall (30 Days of Night, My One and Only).  The Exploding Girl opens March 12th in New York City before expanding to cities across the country in the weeks to follow.  For more information, please visit www.oscilloscope.net/explodinggirl.

About Oscilloscope Laboratories

Oscilloscope Laboratories is a film production and theatrical distribution entity launched in 2008 by Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys. Yauch modeled the company after the indie record labels he grew up around, choosing films and then marketing them with the same artistic integrity with which they were made.  The company, which is an extension of Yauch’s recording studio of the same name, has an in-house DVD distribution and production arm, and the paper packaging is reminiscent of the heyday of LP record jackets. All of the company's DVD packaging is (free of any plastic) printed on FSC Certified 80% post-consumer waste paper and produced in a carbon neutral, hydroelectric, ISO-9001 and ISO-14001 certified plant.  Other Oscilloscope theatrical releases include Yauch's GUNNIN' FOR THAT #1 SPOT, Irena Salina's FLOW, Caroline Suh's FRONTRUNNERS, Kurt Kuenne's DEAR ZACHARY, Kelly Reichardt's WENDY AND LUCY starring Michelle Williams, So Yong Kim's TREELESS MOUNTAIN, Gabriel Medina’s offbeat comedy THE PARANOIDS, the Academy-Award® nominated THE GARDEN from Scott Hamilton Kennedy, Anders Østergaard’s Academy-Award® nominated BURMA VJ, Nati Baratz's UNMISTAKEN CHILD, and Laura Gabbert and Justin Schein’s NO IMPACT MAN. Upcoming releases include Lance Daly’s award-winning Irish film KISSES, the re-release of Jules Dassin’s classic THE LAW, Bradley Rust Gray’s THE EXPLODING GIRL starring Zoe Kazan and Michel Gondry’s personal family documentary THE THORN IN THE HEART. Recent releases include Oren Moverman’s Academy-Award® nominated THE MESSENGER, starring Woody Harrelson, Ben Foster and Samantha Morton, and Henrik Ruben Genz’s Danish thriller TERRIBLY HAPPY.
