The Creative Coalition Applauds U.S. Senate Approval To Increase National Endowment for the Arts Funding
Washington, D.C. (August 1, 2018) — Today, the U.S. Senate passed the Fiscal Year 2019 Interior Appropriations Bill, which in line with the House-passed version, provides $155 million for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). This level of funding is an increase of $2.2 million over the current funding level and will enable the NEA to continue funding important projects that provide access to the arts for all Americans.
“Americans from our largest cities to our smallest towns should have ‘The Right to Bear Arts’,” said actor and President of The Creative Coalition Tim Daly. “The new funding increase for NEA will ensure that those in underserved and rural areas are able to experience the positive impact of the arts in education, in strengthening our communities, and in defining our American spirit.”
Robin Bronk, CEO of The Creative Coalition, added, “We are thrilled Congress has overwhelmingly recognized the value of the arts and begun restoring federal funding for the NEA. Our culture, our communities and our economy will reap the benefits of the increased funding because of the positive benefits that come from exposure to the arts.”
The final steps to approving the $155 million for the NEA in FY19 are for the House and Senate to send a conference agreement to President Trump and for him to sign it. The goal is for this to happen prior to the start of the new fiscal year on October 1.
