January 16, 2003 – Los Angeles
The Creative Coalition and Fox Searchlight Pictures co-hosted a private screening of Denzel Washington’s directorial debut, Antwone Fisher, at the Little Theatre on the Fox Lot. The film was followed by a question and answer period with Antwone Fisher led by the evening’s host Arianna Huffington. TCC President William Baldwin presented Fisher with the TCC Spotlight Award at an after-party at the Peninsula in recognition of his contribution to the arts. Derek Luke and other members of the cast were present at the ceremony.
January 20, 2003 – Park City, UT
The Creative Coalition hosted a luncheon during the 2003 Sundance Film Festival, during which TCC Board Member Ron Reagan moderated a discussion with actor, musician and social and political activist Ruben Blades, who spoke about his career and advocacy work. The luncheon took place at the Entertainment Technology Alliance house.
January 21, 2003 – Park City, UT
Ray-Ban Visionary Award
The Creative Coalition, Ray Ban, and Movieline Magazine presented Colin Callender, President of HBO Films and TCC Board Member, with the Ray-Ban Visionary Award at the Village at the Lift, during The 2003 Sundance Film Festival. The host committee included: TCC President William Baldwin; Alec Baldwin, Angela Bassett; Don Cheadle; Glenn Close; Billy Crystal; Forest Whitaker; Michael Frankfurt; Andy Garcia; Danny Glover; Whoopi Goldberg; Michael Keaton; Joe Pantoliano; Barry Pepper; Sydney Pollack; and Ridely Scott with a special musical performance by Liz Phair.
January 28, 2003 – Washintgon, D.C
The Creative Coalition hosted a reception in Washington D.C. honoring the members of the 108th Congress. A private dinner at Ortanique followed with members of the arts and policy communities coming together to watch and discuss the annual State of The Union Address. Creative Coalition hosts included: TCC President William Baldwin; Sean Astin; Connie Britton; Amy Carlson; Bruce Davison; Fran Drescher; Giancarlo Esposito; Tony Goldwyn; Chris Lawford and Mavis Leno. Special guests in attendance included Antwone Fisher and Reverend Jesse Jackson.
March 23, 2003 - Los Angeles, CA
The Creative Coalition and Rock The Vote hosted an Academy Awards Celebration Dinner with all proceeds donated to Children Uniting Nations. The event was hosted by California Governor Gray Davis and First Lady Sharon Davis, Alec Baldwin, Pierce Brosnan, Jane Seymour, Sela Ward, Maria Conchita Alonso, Esai Morales, JC Chasez, as well as Olympic Gold Medalists Lenny Kryzelberg and Tara Lapinski.
March 25 & 26, 2003 - Washington, D.C.
The Creative Coalition, in partnership with Americans For The Arts, sent a delegation to Washington, D.C. for Arts Advocacy Day 2003. Capitol Hill delegates included: TCC Board Members Giancarlo Esposito; Michael Frankfurt; Elliot Forrest; Ron Reagan; as well as TCC members Amy Carlson and Fran Drescher. The delegation delivered a unified message encouraging membes of Congress to increase funding for the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities, with particular focus on the benefits on arts education for the nation's youth.
April 9, 2003 - San Francisco, CA
The fourth in a four part series, this panel, hosted by The Creative Coalition, in partnership with The First Amendment Center and the Fund for New Priorities, examined how the freedom of the press is impacted during wartime. The panel discussion was hosted by Peter Coyote and moderated by Ron Reagan. Participants included: Alec Baldwin, Adonal Foyle, Tom Hayden, Michael Medved and Norman Ornstein.
May 4, 2003 - New York
Private screeining of Bitter Jester, shown at the Tribeca Film Festival. The film was produced by TCC Board Member Richard Belzer and chronicles director Maija DiGiorgio, a blacklisted comedian trying to make a comeback into standup. The film was hosted by TCC Co-Presidents Tony Goldwyn and Joe Pantoliano, TCC Board Members Richard Belzer and Caroline Hirsch, as well as Michael Moore and Paul Schaffer. Amy Carlson, Gilbert Gottfried, Christopher Meloni and Tony Roberts also attended the event.
May 8, 2003 - New York
Private screening of the Showtime Original Picture Soldier's Girl, at the Paramount Screening Room. TCC Board members Mathew Blank and Giancarlo Esposito hosted and attended the screening, along with the film's stars Troy Garity, Lee Pace and director Frank Pierson. Judy Collins, Ron Eldard and Amy Irving also attended the event.
October 14, 2003 - New York
The Creative Coalition hosted the 2004 Presidential Election Preview: The Hollywood Factor. The forum brought together Republican and Democratic Party leaders with Hollywood activists to debate the impact the entertainment industry will have on the first Presidential election of the 21st century. The forum was moderated by TCC Board member Ron Reagan and featured U.S. Representative Steve Israel (D-NY), Sean Astin, Richard Belzer and leading Republican pollster Dr. Frank Luntz.
November 18, 2003 – New York
The 2003 Spotlight Awards and Ultimate Benefit Gala was held at Sotheby’s in New York City. Tad Smith, TCC Board Member and President of the Media Division of Reed Business Information graciously chaired the event with TCC Board Member Richard Belzer serving as Master of Ceremonies.
Festivities included the first-ever Ultimate Shopping Spree, where guests were able to get a jump start on the holiday season by filling their gift bags with the latest in luxury and unique products. The Spotlight Awards honored these individuals and organizations for their dedication to social consciousness: AmeriCares, Plaza Construction Chairman & CEO Steven Fisher and Paul Mitchell Systems CEO John Paul DeJoria. The awards were presented by TCC Co-President Tony Goldwyn, New York City Police Officer Daniel Rodriguez and Phillip Bloch. In addition, TCC Past President and current Board Member Christopher Reeve presented his namesake
First Amendment Award to Phil Donahue.
