The moderator is Paul Taylor and the panelists are George Christie (Maine Citizen Leadership Fund), Rep. Christopher Shays, Sen. Russell Feingold, Becky Cain (League of Women Voters) and Ann McBride (Common Cause- National).

The Creative Coalition participates in Arts Advocacy Day in Washington, D.C. Members Alec Baldwin, Marlo Thomas, Blair Brown, Brenda Boozer and Richard Masur meet with Speaker Gingrich in Congress and President Clinton at The White House to discuss the importance of the arts.

Member Alec Baldwin appears on CBS This Morning to discuss arts funding.
October 25, 1997
A campaign finance reform petition drive is held in Massachusetts. Members collect over 9,000 signatures in one day to place a Clean Money/ Clean Elections Law on the 1998 Massachusetts ballot. Articles are written about the event in Time Magazine (“Taking Political Baby Steps”) and The New Republic (“The Boys of the Bus”).
November 17, 1997
The inaugural Seconding The FirstÔ event is held at The Town Hall in New York City. It is an evening dedicated to celebrating the First Amendment through a multi-media and stage presentation. Forty participants read, perform and introduce the audience to materials that have been banned, censored or contested in America over the past 100 years. MSNBC tapes the show and airs a condensed version several times.
