Another Win for The #RightToBearArts

Senate Interior Appropriations Subcommittee Funds the National Endowment for the Arts at the Level Requested by The Creative Coalition

June 12, 2018 (Washington, DC) – The Creative Coalition is pleased to congratulate members of the U.S. Senate Interior Appropriations Subcommittee for increasing funding for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) by $2 million for Fiscal Year (FY) 2019. Today, the Subcommittee approved $155 million for the NEA for the upcoming fiscal year. This is the same amount requested by members of The Creative Coalition during their 2018 #RightToBearArts Capitol Hill Day in April when they met with members of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees. This funding increase was initially approved by the House Interior Appropriations Subcommittee last month and also approved by the full House Appropriations Committee last week.

The Creative Coalition appreciates Congress’ recognition of the power of the arts to empower our youth, our communities and our nation. Increased funding for the NEA will allow for increased grant opportunities in rural and underserved communities so more Americans are able to benefit from the economic, social, and educational impacts of the arts.

Later this week, the full Senate Appropriations Committee is scheduled to markup the FY 2019 Interior Appropriations Bill. After that, the full House and Senate are each expected to consider their respective bills which will ultimately need to be conferenced, passed by each Chamber and signed by the President later this year.
